Our experiences with sex shape us in meaningful ways; they can help us feel less isolated in the world. A satisfying sex life can help you deal with stress more effectively, connect more deeply with a partner(s), or encourage self-discovery. Here are a few of the topics that we can work on together in therapy:
- Exploring sexual identity
- Discovering what gives you pleasure
- Improving sex life
- Addressing sexual dysfunction
- Understanding problematic sexual behaviors
I adopt a sex-positive attitude when working with you about any of the above concerns. That means that I believe that the requirements for a healthy sex life are clear, honest communication as well as consent.
Working on sexual themes in therapy will entail both exploring your beliefs about sex and adapting unhelpful behaviors that get in the way of your sexual satisfaction.
Sexual topics can be difficult to talk about. I try to make it as easy as possible, by both using humor and being as plainspoken about sex as possible. Trust me when I say that I have heard a lot over my 20+ years of clinical experience, so there is little you can say that will surprise me.
